Starting a discussion for members who are on the Matterhorn Peak climb scheduled for March 15-17th.  Please post any questions and use this to arrange ridesharing, etc.

I've attached a packing list to act as a template for creating your own.  This represents the absolute minimum you should have and likely you will need to add more to your own list.

Thanks Doug! I'm looking forward to the trip.

    Regarding community gear:

    • Stove: I have a Snow Peak Giga Power. Not the best stove by a long stretch, but I'll be happy to bring it if it helps.
    • Bear canister: I have two, would be happy to loan one if anyone needs (they're the plastic 700 cu.in. type).
    • Tent: I have a basic 3-season 2-person, which I can bring, but it does have a tear in the floor (courtesy of a TSA agent).

    Hi Doug, Travis,

    As for gear:
I have 2 bear canisters, can share them with somebody. Also have Snow peak giga power stove.
    Also I have a 4-season 2person tent that I can share.

    Commute:
I am looking for a carpooling buddy. Departing from San Mateo, Bay area (we can discuss date and time).

So, I have a Bear Vault 450 which is probably big enough for two people's food, if needed I can bring this.

Travis and Nikita does either of your stoves have a pot?  We'll need a total of 3 (possibly 4) stoves with pots to make this work.

Three season tents are OK so long as the weather forecast calls for low winds and not much snow, however please make sure you have a means of staking them with actual snow stakes (you can pick these up at REI for about $3 each).

I also have a four season Hilleburg Nallo tent I can bring which can hold two and am planning on bringing a BD First Light which is a tight fit for two but can work if needed.  So I'll have tents for up to 4 people with me and an Ursack for me, one stove with pot and bear canister which should work for 2 others.

I've got a titanium cook set, I'll bring it at least as far as the trailhead just in case.

Also I'm coming from the Sacramento area (Auburn to be specific), I'm up for carpooling if anyone else happens to be coming from that neck of the woods.

I'll need to borrow a bear canister. I'm in the middle of moving -- and I believe it's in storage. Or in a box. I'm not sure.

I did grab a jetboil. More importantly, I have many canisters which I'd love to use up. I have a three season tent available, which is what I used almost ten years ago when I did this climb in the spring. If folks feel more comfortable with a four season tent, that's okay as well - but will need a spot to sleep.

Carpool - I plan on leaving SF on Thursday afternoon and sleeping in my car or at a hotel near bridgeport, Thursday night. I also plan to hit the road Sunday upon descent to head back to SF.

Hey there! I have an MSR Windburner stove and Mountain Headwear Direkt 2 winter tent, which fits 2 (snugly). I'll also bring the vestibule. I'll probably end up grabbing an Ursack.

So Natasha and Nathan if you can bring your stoves, Leslie also has an MSR Windburner and I have a Reactor so with those four we should be fine.  Others can bring their stoves but do not need to.

Also need at least two shovels, I have one but if we can get 1-2 more people to commit to bringing them it would help.

I can bring a shovel and cook set.

I'll also bring my stove, extra bear box, and tent just in case. Sounds like Natasha may need the box. My tent is probably the worst of the bunch due to the tear in the floor, but it can be a back up.

I don't have any snow stakes for a tent, but they've been on my list to get my hands on for a while. I'd be happy to get a set to loan to whoever brings the tent I end up in, if needed.

    Doug/all -

    Some meal-related questions:

    • What's meetup time on Friday? For the sake of planning breakfast (is it a trail meal or on-the-road meal?).
    • Similar but for Sunday, which meals do you anticipate being on the trail on Sunday?
    • And, what's the group consensus on Saturday/Sunday mornings regarding hot or cold meals? I usually do cold to get a quicker start, but if you're all having delicious hot meals, I don't want to be stuck watching in the cold with my grape nuts.
