Hey everyone,
Hope everyone is hanging in there. I am somewhat new to the club. I come from more of a hiking, backpacking background and I'm trying to make the jump to more alpinist endeavors. In that process I need to add some and convert some of my gear. I'm sort of a frugal gear head. (Full disclosure, I'm not very good at remembering model numbers after I make a decision. So maybe I'm not a pure gear head) I love getting new gear, but on a limited budget I spend a lot of time researching the best options for me. I usually shoot for the most versatile pieces I can use in multiple settings. I am wondering if others in the club would be willing to talk about their gear; what has worked, what hasn't and why. I was thinking of sending out a topic each week that we can discuss. I know gear can be very personal, but that would be interesting to hear about as well. Why does one thing work better for person a than person b. My topic for this week, should you accept it, is what is your favorite alpinist pack? Best 1-3 day and your go to expedition pack? Tell us about why you chose one capacity size over another, what features you look for, which features you really didn't need, are there brands that held up, ones that didn't, do you consider the company's environmental impact etc.? I assume many of you are fast and light types, but if you have an argument in the other direction please chime in.
Look forward to seeing everyone's responses and tapping into the collective wisdom of the group. Hope to meet you all soon on a club event.
Scott
