MT JUDAH LOOP SNOWSHOE HIKE: All levels welcome on this hike to Mt. Judah from the Donner Pass PCT Trailhead. This peak is proximate to Sugar Bowl ski area and has great views of Truckee and the Tahoe backcountry. Depending on group decision and weather conditions, we can continue further on the PCT and complete the out/back hike as we see fit. Some previous hiking experience recommended. We have room for 8. Hope to have you out with us!

DETAILS:

  • Route: Out/back loop is 5.6 miles with 1,228 ft of elevation gain. Link for more info.

  • Where to meet: December 15th, 8:00 am. We will meet at old Donner Pass parking area next to the old ski school. It’s immediately at the top of the summit on the road, or right before the descent into the Donner Lake area depending on your direction. From Sacramento - Take HWY 80 east to the Donner Pass Road exit 174. Follow Donner Pass road for roughly 3.8 miles - the old ski school will be on the right. From Reno: Take HWY 80 west to Donner Pass Rd exit 184. Turn left onto Donner Pass Rd and the ski school will be on the left in roughly 6.9 miles. More details about parking will follow a week before the trip.

ITINERARY

We will meet at the Donner Summit Trailhead and do quick introductions. From there we will quickly start ascending some switchbacks before leveling off and we will take breaks to shed layers, hydrate, and snack as necessary. Depending on our speed, we will eat our pack lunches at the summit if the weather is nice, in a wind protected area, or back at the cars.
