Hello everyone, this space is for coordinating rides and fielding questions about all MAA programming on Shasta Memorial Day weekend, May 24-27th.

This includes three sessions of Ice-R on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a Sunday climb / ski and a Monday climb. All five events will share the same basecamp. The participants who are going into basecamp each day should meet at 8:00 am at Rite-Aid off I-5, exit 738, in the city of Mt. Shasta. From there you can caravan to the trailhead, and hike in to basecamp together. Please travel in groups of two or more into basecamp.

There will be ELs going in with most teams: Darren on Thursday, Fletcher on Friday, and Will on Saturday. You can also contact Darren by phone 916-872-3399 with questions.

Please use this space to coordinate. Looking forward to having you join us this weekend!

    Coming from So-Cal.

    Would love to carpool!

I'm planning on doing two days of the glacier/crevasse rescue training (Saturday/Sunday) and then the climb on Monday.

Let me know if anyone wants to carpool!

Hey team, I might consider joining the Friday afternoon crew for the hike in. @Stephanie and @Greg I believe you guys are planning to hit the trail later on Friday? What time do you have in mind?

    SKI TEAM

Who needs a tent?  If you have a 4 season tent bring it.  I will be bringing a MSR Windburner stove, pot, and a few canisters.  I don't think we will need more than two stoves.

If we don't have enough tents the club has a bunch but we need to let Darren know what we need.

Who wants to Car Pool from Tahoe?  I will be leaving Friday returning Sunday or Monday.

Hey! The later the better for me because I'm coming from a long way. I'm not sure how long the trek from the parking lot to Basecamp is but if we could do afternoon that'd be best for me. What are your thoughts?

I also don't have a tent so if anybody is willing to share I promise I don't bite.

    Hey Ski Team

I'd like to go in Friday afternoon if possible so yes let's talk hookup. Name a time and I'll be there.

As far as equipment I have a four-season tent a stove, pots etc. I'd love to share gear and avoid hauling in a bunch of extra weight we don't really need.

I plan on being very flexible as far as coming out so if the conditions are really good I can ski more and if they're kind of awful I'll just ski out and bring some gear out for the others and help out that way.

I'm also planning on bringing my one BCA radio, Avi beacon and my Garmin sat device.

I plan to go to Hood after Shasta and am on vacation so I'm just keeping it flexible and fun if anyone wants to carpool or join me. If Mount Hood gets socked in and awful then it sounds like the plan is Smith rocks which I'm totally stoked for so I'll be bringing a climbing rack and a rope and ready to go there too. Well that's my plans so like I said the mantra is flexible and fun.

Let me know if your in!

    Hey Stefanie,

I am lacking in the tent/stove department.  Would love to share if possible.  Obviously, I can help carry things too!

It looks like it'll be snowing on Friday so perhaps we can head to camp at like 1 to 2 pm so we can get comfortable before it gets dark?  Thoughts?

I am coming in Saturday with Will's team (taking Ice-R on Sunday) - I have a 4 season tent (EV2) and a white fuel stove (Primus OminLite Ti) and 1 L fuel bottle plus 2,5 L and 2 L pots (alpine MSR 2). Looking for partner to walk in to basecamp, share weight etc. I have a shovel as well.

I think I am coming out on Monday sometime, according to Darren's plans - not sure flexible.

Driving from Emeryville, CA also looking for carpoolers.

Check out the observation on Shasta Avalanche Center from yesterday.  Avalanche danger is a real concern. https://www.shastaavalanche.org/climbing-route-trailhead-conditions/south-side-conditions-update-5

@Stefanie, @Greg, I will most likely join you guys but I think we should start heading to camp at 1pm or earlier, as the travel time to base camp might be 4-5 hours.

On a separate note as per Will's comment the forecast looks questionable. I'll have to confirm my plans a bit closer to the date.
