Peakbagging Sugar Bowl to Squaw

Join us for a day of hiking and “peak bagging” from Sugar Bowl to Squaw Valley on Sunday, Sept 23rd. Everyone is invited to come on out to enjoy this area and the company of fellow members. This is a free level 1 non-technical event - there are no pre-requisites. An ability to hike at a 2-mile per hour pace over varied terrain would be useful. Loaner gear may be available. For ride sharing, text Samaara (530) 414-4578. We have room for 5 to 8 people and their WELL BEHAVED four-legged furry friend (please only 1 dog per owner). Hope to have you out with us!

This is a super fun hike that I usually do once a year. This time of year, we’ll see the colors begin to change and spectacular views in all directions with nice cool temperatures.

DETAILS:

When: Saturday, Sept 22, 2018 7 am to 4 pm (likely a bit earlier)

Where: PCT from Sugar Bowl to Squaw Valley. Start is at the Sugar Bowl Academy parking lot at the summit off of Old Hwy 40. Finish is Squaw Valley Parking lot.

What: 16 miles with optional “peak bagging” of Mt. Judah, Anderson, and Tinker Knob. We’ll move about 2 miles per hour pace with breaks and we’ll take time for lunch

What to bring: The trail is good! Sturdy running shoes, short hikers, boots with socks. Lots of snacks and a sack lunch. Bring A LOT of water. You will NOT be able to refill water. If you’re bringing your dog bring enough water for 2! Walking poles can be nice and an added “workout”. Dress in layers, check the weather, bring rain jacket if needed.

I will have 1 car at Squaw Valley and will need a ride from Truckee to the Sugar Bowl start. If more than 5 people come (total) we will need to shuttle one more car to Squaw Valley.
